Shanty Days Celebration of the Lake

On a hot August day, one of the best places to be sitting is on the shore of Lake Michigan. Plan to spend time at the annual Shanty Days Celebration of the Lake in Algoma. The celebration is spread along Fremont Street and between 2nd Street and 4th Street. The fun begins on Friday evening and ends Sunday evening.

On Friday, on the library lawn, is the annual book sale. Saturday highlights include a 5K run/walk and parade; both Saturday and Sunday feature live music and arts and crafts. Kids could spend hours in the “Just for Kids” area but be sure to reserve some family time to walk along Algoma’s half-mile boardwalk.
