Lunch for the literary types has never been better. Poe’s Tavern in Atlantic Beach is named for Edgar Allan Poe, perhaps America’s most beloved mystery writer. Menu items are aptly named for famous stories of the troubled penman known for originating the detective and horror story genres. Soups, salads and fish tacos dot the menu, but Poe’s Tavern is best known for its gourmet burgers. A favorite: The Black Cat burger with grilled onions, applewood bacon, pimiento cheese and Edgar’s Drunken Chili. Portraits of Poe cover the exposed brick walls. And if you’re a Poe fan, you just might find yourself spending an inordinate amount of time in the ladies’ room, where the sound system drips with the voice Vincent Price reading popular Poe passages.
