Family Activities in Phoenix, AZ
The outdoor water park, Wet ‘n’ Wild, is Arizona’s largest theme park, boasting thrill-seeking rides like the Master Blaster and Maximum Velocity. Be sure to check out the Soak Em’ playground, Boogie Board Beach and Mammoth Falls. If all that swimming makes you hungry, enjoy a variety of food options at the Point Break Cafe or the Bayside Snack area. Some rides do have a height requirement; however children of all ages can play in the kids' playground. Wet 'n Wild is closed during the winter months.
If your kids love fire trucks, they're sure to enjoy the world’s largest firefighting museum, the Hall of Flame. Check out the historic fire trucks, including some trucks the kids are allowed to climb on, and other memorabilia. There are almost an acre of fully restored pieces, including some dating back to 1725. Check out the history of the American fightfighters, as well as exhibits from around the world, including England, France, Austria and Germany. Open Monday through Saturday, 9am – 5pm and Sundays from noon to 4pm.
This park features famous railroad cars, an antique carousel and multiple playgrounds, including a replica of an old Western town. Kids will love taking the train around the park and having lunch at the nearby station. There's plenty of open grass and shade, making this a perfect spot for a picnic. From December to January, the Railroad Park has a festive holiday light display and turns the park into a winter wonderland. The whole family will enjoy taking a ride through the holiday lights, as well a visit from Santa! Free admission to the park, however you must buy tickets for the rides.
Arizona Science Center is a kid-friendly museum featuring more than 300 hands-on exhibits to teach kids the wonders of science and art. This museum also includes an art planetarium, a giant screen IMAX theater that is five stories high and live demonstrations. The hands-on exhibits, such as the All About Me which allows kids to walk through a “working” stomach, are both fun and educational. Groups with 15 or more guests are eligible for a discounted rate, making this the perfect activity for a family reunion or group outing. Open 10am – 5pm every day but Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Come experience the Wild West with gunfights and cookouts at Arizona’s largest frontier town experience. Your kids will love the stagecoach rides and shoot-outs, and you'll love the mesquite cowboy steaks at Rawhide, Arizona’s original family steakhouse. From the desert train ride to the burro rides and live country music, your family will feel like you are in the Old West! Check out the specialty shops, featuring authentic western wear and Native American art. Don’t miss their sundown cookouts every Saturday night!
