Annual Festivals/Fairs in Dallas, TX
Featuring local and national culinary talents, the Dallas Wine & Food Festival is one of the most high-profile foodie events in the great state of Texas. Come on down to one of the five event locations to sample award-winning wines and some of the most amazing culinary treats in the U.S. and stick around to see the winners of one of the largest and most regarded wine competitions in the country. Each year, the event hosts the unforgettable Rising Stars Chefs Dinner, celebrating the up-and-coming gourmet talent of some of the newest chefs on the scene. Join them again for one of their classic weekend seminars where they'll introduce you to the most en vogue trends in wine.
The Dallas Museum of Art will kick off its Arts & Letters Live with the annual BooksmART Festival, featuring authors and illustrators beloved by children and parents alike. Participants include Newberry Medal winners Jack Gantos and Rebecca Stead and the multi-talented actor-dancer-singer... and now author, Taye Diggs. In addition to getting to meet some of your kids' favorite writers and illustrators, you'll be able to listen to storytelling throughout the museum and participate in interactive workshops with paper engineer Bruce Foster and many of the participating illustrators. Essilor Vision Foundation will also be on hand to provide free vision exams and glasses for qualifying children 4 to 12.
This June, stop by the Juneteenth Cultural Festival at Fair park for an action-packed day of family fun. The festival, which celebrates the end of slavery in the United States, celebrates "unity, peace and freedom through music, art, spoken word and dance." In addition to artistic performances, festival-goers can partake of the event's delicious cuisine, artisan crafts and vendors -- local, national and even global! There's also a fashion show, activities just for the kids, and more. Stop by the website early enough and you can even vote for the acoustic, rock, hip-hop and R&B musicians you'd most like to see take the stage.
Whether you prefer the dynamic beats of hip-hop, the seductive allure of R&B, the intimate revelations of soul or the smooth sounds of jazz, you'll groove the night away at the DeSoto SolJazz Festival. Featuring the likes of native Dallas-ite Jurni Rayne and former NFL safety turned country star Joe King, The SolJazz Festival has an eclectic mix of music making it the ideal event for audio-philes across North Texas and beyond. In addition to the musical festivities, there's a celebrity golf tournament and a karaoke contest at Buttons Restaurant where you can strut your own stuff for your friends and the rest of DFW.
The beautiful city of Grapevine welcomes summer to DFW each year with Main Street Days. With live music from the hottest bands in the Metroplex, a carnival and plenty of local beer, wine and food, there's a little something for everyone in the family at Main Street Days. Go watch someone win the Grillin' Competition or sign up to win the $1,000 Big Green Egg grill yourself. But whatever you do, don't miss the Pizza Piazza, where you'll be able to try a variety of pizzas, thick and thin, spicy and tangy, from one of nine local pizza vendors then vote for your favorite to win the title of People's Pizza Pick.
