Dog's Day Out in Houston, TX
Take a step back into Houston history with a visit to Sam Houston Park. The first park established in the city, Sam Houston Park is located downtown and features many historic homes, churches and structures as well as Heritage Society Museum. If you are just looking for a place to spend a sunny afternoon with your dog, Sam Houston Park is a fantastic choice. Though it doesn't feature a dedicated dog park, you can certainly bring your canine on a leash. They are very strict about cleaning up waste, so be prepared. If you are visiting Houston, this park is a great escape from the noise and crowds of the city. Your dog (and you) can get some exercise and sunshine while staying right downtown.
Located just south of Houston on the Gulf of Mexico, Surfside Beach is a coastal beach village that offers fishing, surfing, boating and many other water activities. It's very dog-friendly with many visitors bringing their pets to the beach. Just remember to keep your dog leashed. The Drive-On part of the beach allows traffic and parking right on the water's edge and at the dunes. This area of the Surfside Beach can get very crowded in the summertime, especially on weekends. Instead, you can hang out at the Pedestrian Beach, which is closed to all vehicular traffic. Grab a bite a Kitty's Purple Cow, and sit in their outdoor garden area, where leashed dogs are welcome.
Located in Rice Village, this Houston pub is a fantastic place to kick back and relax with a pint of beer. Their front patio and back beer garden are dog-friendly. Dogs are allowed at their outdoor tables and the waiters are more than happy to bring water for both you and your pooch. In addition to a fantastic selection of brews (and they add new beers all the time), you can choose from an array of munchies. Their "Beer Companion" is a fantastic option, featuring cheese, crackers, meats, apples, olives and more. And don't miss their pretzel dog -- a soft-baked pretzel bun around a smoked sausage.
Located on a charming tree-lined street near the Montrose Museum District, this 1923 Colonial style home is now a boutique hotel. This inn is conveniently located within walking distance of many fabulous restaurants, nightclubs and shops. It's also just a few minutes away from Houston's top attractions including the Galleria, Theater District, Convention Center, Hermann Park, Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park. You'll love the on-site pool and jacuzzi, as well as the library and sunroom. Dogs are welcome with a $25 pet fee per room.
Tila's offers amazing authentic Mexican cuisine and some of the best margaritas in the city. You'll love the extraordinary selection of food that includes brie and pear quesadillas, spicy pork medallions in a basil-mint pesto sauce, filet mignon stuffed with chevre cheese, and much, much more. Feel free to bring your friendly, leashed dog when dining on their relaxing, comfortable patio. This restaurant and bar is open for breakfast beginning at 11:00 a.m. and stays open until 11:00 p.m. (midnight on Friday and Saturday).
