Reliant Stadium

Reliant Stadium is home to the NFL's Houston Texans, Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo and dozens of concerts and special events all year long. With seating for 71,500 people, this facility with a retractable roof offers ample parking, great sightlines and upscale amenities. However, the seats are a bit cramped and the shortage of women's restrooms is obvious. For a large venue, the sound is surprisingly good for large concerts but the facility is best suited for sports.

Minute Maid Park

Home to the Houston Astros, Minute Maid Park was Houston's first retractable roof stadium. Though usually home to sporting events, the stadium also plays host to number of large-scale concerts each year. As with most modern facilities, the parking and concessions can be expensive. Eat before or after the event to save some cash, and be willing to walk a few blocks in order to get parking under five bucks. Though it might not seem like it at first, this large stadium is actually excellent for concerts and other performances with amazing sound and sightlines, so that that there's not a bad seat in the house.

Toyota Center

Whether you are watching the Houston Rockets play or taking in a concert, the Toyota Center offers an enjoyable experience in downtown Houston. Of course, parking can be expensive if you park in their lots. But if you are willing to walk a little bit, you can park on the street for free or find a cheaper lot. The Toyota Center is a very clean, well-kept venue with friendly staff and plenty of offerings in terms of food and beverages (though they'll cost you a pretty penny). The best thing about modern facilities like this one is that wherever you are sitting, you get a fantastic view of the action.

Arena Theater

With an intimate feel, Houston's historic Arena Theater seats about 2,700. The sound system and acoustics are very good, making it a fantastic venue for a live concert. What's cool is no seat is more than 60 feet from stage, which rotates slowly during the show -- so there's not a bad seat in the house. Even though it's relatively small, the Arena Theater has hosted concerts from mega stars from Aretha Franklin to Willie Nelson to Lil Wayne. The parking garage is attached to the theater and offers plenty of space. With four full-service bars and plenty of concession options, you'll never be without food or drink while enjoying a performance at this venue.

Miller Outdoor Theatre

Free outdoor concerts and events -- how can you beat it? Located at Hermann Park, the Miller Outdoor Theatre is home to a variety of performances including ballet, opera, musicals, symphonies, theater, movies, Shakespeare and more. You can bring your own food and beverages in a picnic basket or cooler. Alcohol is fine -- just don't bring any glass. Though the more popular events get extremely crowded, you can arrive early and avoid the frustrating search for good seats and available parking. Bring lawn chairs or blankets, but remember that chairs should be seated stage left and blankets stage right. Check their schedule online to see what performances and events are coming up. Most are free but some have a nominal fee. The restrooms are clean and the concessions are surprisingly well-priced. Bring the bug spray to keep the mosquitoes and other insects away.
