Brazos Bend State Park

Just about 30 minutes from Houston, Brazos Bend State Park is a fabulous option for those individuals or families looking for a summer retreat. From fishing to camping and from sightseeing to hiking, this place has it all. Brazos Bend State Park is enormous -- approximately 5,000 acres -- and there's always something going on. In the summer months, workshops and fun events take place that are put on by Texas Parks and Wildlife. We also recommend Brazos Bend State Park for the fishing. In total, there are six lakes to choose from -- with Hale Lake being a top favorite. However, be warned that there are alligators roaming the area so it's important to pay close attention to children and pets.

You can find everything from lessons for beginners to tandem tours at Buffalo Bayou -- check their official website for more details.
