Piiholo Ranch

Whether you choose to adventure through the eucalyptus forests and native plants and trees by horseback or zipline, Piiholo Ranch offers a unique way to see Maui. Zipline rides are recommended for children ages 10 and up, but horseback trips and riding lessons are for kids as young as 3 years old. The ziplines are certainly their main attraction -- we love that your entire family can go at the same time with four ziplines in a row! The staff at Piiholo Ranch are well-known for being extreamly cautious and knowledgable and even entertaining!

Haleakala Bike Company

Your family will love biking down Maui's largest volcano! There are many different tours to choose from, including an express tour and a bright-and-early sunrise tour. The amazing views of the crater and the coast are not soon forgotten. The tours are 27 miles long and at your own pace, but the steep trail makes this is an activity best suited for teens to adults who are comfortable on a bicycle. We especially love this bike tour because you don't have to stick with a group or ride on a timetable -- if you want to ride fast, go for it! Or, take your time with your family and enjoy the view.

Haleakala Crater

Take a guided tour through Maui to the top of Haleakala, which is an active, but not currently erupting, volcano. Depending on the ages of your family members, you can experience the crater by foot, bicycle, horseback or car. But, if you venture to the top during sunrise, be sure to grab a jacket because it tends to be chilly in the morning! There is a $10 fee per car to enter the park, but that pass is good for three-days, so you can make the most of it. Kids ages 7-12 can become Junior Rangers at Halekala -- stop by the Ranger Station for more details!

Hawaii Nature Center

This science museum provides interactive exhibits on Hawaiian flora and fauna, as well as guided hikes for the entire family. The Rainforest Hike is a favorite for families -- it's a moderate, two-hour hike that takes you through the amazing and lavish rainforests of Maui, as well as through coffee and kukui groves. Tours are approximately $20 for adults and $10 for children ages five and older. Have a little one with you? Be sure to bring a hiking backpack so that you can explore without tired little legs lagging behind!

Hot Island Glass Blowing

The entire family will be mesmerized watching the artists at Hot Island Glass transform ordinary pieces of glass into amazing works of art. The shop is set up as both a gallery and a studio -- families can stand behind a partition and watch the artists work on their latest masterpiece. Because there is a lot of breakable goods in the shop, you may want to keep the littlest ones in a stroller or pack while you check out Hot Island or leave this activity to families with older children to play it safe!
