Bergdorf Goodman

If you’re a fashionista who happens to be on her lunch break, then satisfy your cravings for couture at this swanky midtown shop. Bergdorf Goodman, currently located in the Vanderbilt Mansion, features numerous boutiques from world-renowned fashion designers, including Gucci, Chanel, and Yves Saint Laurent. There are two giant shoe departments for Manolo addicts, as well as plenty of European fragrances to choose from. In addition to a ninth floor salon frequented by models and a handbag floor for ladies seeking to rock Prada, there’s also a cozy café where celebs are often spotted with cappuccinos.

Macy's

What do Miracle on 34th Street and “I Love Lucy” have in common? At one point, these classic Hollywood favorites all featured a New York City landmark.  Macy's, the world’s largest department store, takes over one popular block in Manhattan, is eight stories high, and has nine floors filled with merchandise. Thousands of residents and tourists alike all flock to Macy’s and stock up on everything from luxurious kitchenware to Calvin Klein dresses. No matter what you need or how dangerously tight your budget may be, Macy's will have it and more.

Henri Bendel

Any New Yorker seeking to stock up on designer threads must make their way to one of Manhattan’s chicest spots, Fifth Avenue. Here, you will find the luxurious four-story boutique, Henri Bendel, a favorite among the Astors and Vanderbilts. Henri Bendel, which reportedly held the first fashion show in the city, is where shoppers can discover new designers before they hit the runways.  In addition, if you’re seeking rare French perfume or simply want to channel your inner Marilyn Monroe with one of Besame’s vintage-inspired lipsticks, Henri Bendel is where you should visit. While you're at it, make sure you get a makeover at the Frederic Fekkai salon!

C.O. Bigelow Chemists

C.O. Bigelow Chemists is a completely different kind of pharmacy, but it’s one that you’ll instantly fall in love with. History buffs appreciate the fact that the Roosevelts filled their prescriptions here, but today, this West Village apothecary offers so much more than tonics.  C.O. Bigelow Chemists, often frequented by Liv Tyler and Calvin Klein, has an impressive selection of perfumed candles, rose salves for chapped puckers, evening bath oils, herbal shampoos, little-known fragrances with scents of absinthe and fleur d’orange, as well as vintage inspired gifts for that special someone. When your skin is dire need of a makeover, make your shopping date happen at C.O. Bigelows!

Barneys

Can’t afford Christian Louboutin stilettos, Marc Jacobs skinny jeans, or an oversized Balenciaga bag? Wait until this Madison Avenue luxury department store announces their twice-yearly warehouse sale and stock up on designer goods for half the price or even less. While you’re at it, take advantage of shopping early for the holidays, like a true New Yorker. Barneys has numerous options, including floors filled with runway-ready couture, including one just for designer footwear, as well as sparkling Turkish gems. Make sure you check out the eighth floor where you can visit the “denim doctor” who will recommend the best jeans for your body type.
