Screen Door

When most people think of Southern-style comfort food brunches, they think of heavy, butter-laden dishes. But, what you may not also realize about comfort food is that is it based around using ingredients and produce that are grown as close to home as possible -- pulling from local farms for everything from the bacon to the strawberries. At Screen Door, brunch is truly comfort food. And although some of their dishes may still have a heafty amount of butter, they are also delicious, fresh and locally-sourced. Order the fried chicken and waffle, which comes served with a steak knife sticking out the top to keep this mound of tasty brunch food from toppling over.

Voodoo Doughnut

Doughnuts. It's what's for breakfast. Voodoo Doughnuts is a Portland staple and althouth you're more than welcome do indulge in these treats any time of day, this is a breakfast and brunch list! But, as Portland locals know, Voodoo is not your average doughnut shop -- we're talking about maple bars with bacon, doughnuts topped in sugary cereals, more sprinkles than probably even come in a container and even doughnuts covered in M&Ms. Over the weekend, there is likely to be a line at Voodoo Doughnuts, so be prepared. And, vegan doughnut lovers can rejoice -- Voodoo offers a wide selection of vegan doughnuts for your breakfast pleasure!

Tasty n Sons

When was the last time you had a brunch like this? An open-faced Monte Cristo with spiced maple. Sauteed spinach with a sunny-side-up egg. North African sausage with an over-easy egg, couscous and califlower. This is a menu made in a foodie's brunch heaven and it's right here in Portland at Tasty n Sons. Brunch is served daily at Tasty n Sons, beginning at 9:00 a.m. and the menu is constantly changing, based on what the chefs can purchase fresh and locally and what they are currently inspired by, so you could easily come to Tasty n Sons every single week and always try something new... and delicious!

Pine State Biscuits

Biscuits and gravy. Biscuit sandwiches. Biscuits slathered in butter and jam. Pine State Biscuits, with two fantastic locations in Portland, is, simply put, biscuit heaven for breakfast lovers. Although their menu can easily border on lunchtime fare, there is so much to choose from for the a.m. -- start with basics such as the biscuit sandwich with eggs and cheese. Or, add onto that with flank steak or buttermilk fried chicken. You can make your biscuit a full blown meal with comfort food sides that will make your mouth water -- grits and hot apples, just to name a couple. Prefer your biscuits on the sweeter side? Have them topped with freshly whipped cream and fresh seasonal fruit instead.
