Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

If you are in the Richmond area, take advantage of the great weather and the beautiful scenic views and head to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden. It is guaranteed to be a big hit with the family. More than 40 acres of gardens makeup Lewis Ginter and throughout every season there is always something blooming! Each themed garden is packed with life and you and your family will not only be amazed by their beauty but will also learn all about the different foliage and wildlife of the area. Complete with fountains and scenic photo spots, this is one of Richmond’s most loved destinations and it will yours soo too!

Cartwheels & Coffee

For those with young children, Cartwheels & Coffee is the ultimate weekend hangout. Children six and under can explore, play, socialize and have fun while parents enjoy watching while taking a much-needed break. The indoor play land is not only a social environment for the kids but also for adults as well. You know when you are busy with the family it can be tough to make new friends. At Cartwheels & Coffee it’s the ideal place to meet people and let you kid do what he/she does best – play! Aside from the general play areas there are also musical instrument lessons and music classes to get the little ones started early. Maymont

This 100-acre estate is something you simply have to see and experience for yourself to believe. The and mansion on the property were given as a gift from the Dooley family who resided there from 1893 to 1925. Today the amazing acreage is home to gorgeous gardens and great tours. The kids will love the petting barn where they can see a bear habitat, goats, deer, birds and many other animals. The Japanese garden is also gorgeous and you will love the nature center and bamboo forest. With so much to see and do on the property you can make and entire day of it. 

Metro Richmond Zoo

Few things are more enjoyable for the whole family than spending the day together outdoors surrounded by all sorts of exotic animals. The Metro Richmond Zoo is a great place to spend the day and not only see interesting animals, but also to learn about them as well. Kids can get up close and personal in the petting zoo section and will even have a chance to feed many of the animals right out of their hands. For the little ones there are also a variety of fun rides that will keep them entertained. Baby animals and birds galore make this one of the most interesting and welcoming zoos in the area. 

Three Lakes Nature Center

Getting back to nature is a great way to unwind after the long workweek. The Three Lakes Nature Center is a great family destination that will have the entire family feeling refreshed and invigorated. Inside the visitor’s center there are plenty of exhibits and interesting things to learn about the area while outdoors it is the perfect area to walk and look at the gorgeous lakes that give this park its name. This is also a great thing to do without having to spend money – having a family is no doubt expensive and Three Lakes is a great reminder that some of the best things in life really are free!
