King's English Bookshop

This is the most popular local bookstore in Salt Lake City. They have really fun storytimes and events for kids, and have a way of getting kids excited about reading books. If you ask any Salt Lake City local what the best bookstore is, they will tell you without a doubt it's King's English. They have been in business since 1977, and have great customer service.

Sam Weller's Bookstore

You could get lost for hours in Sam Weller's bookstore! They have so many rare and hard to find books, that you will find yourself browsing the endless rows of material in their store. They have fun maps of Salt Lake City, as well as a "rare books" room upstairs, and a religion section downstairs. They have magazines from the 1930s that are great as gifts for the person that has everything; find them a popular magazine from the month and year they were born, and it will make their day! Located downtown right in front of a trax station, they are easy to find and get to.

Seagull Book

When looking for family books, and family fun in general, Seagull Book is the first place to go. They have books geared towards families, as well as board games, movies, art decor, backpacks and seasonal selections. All of their prices are discounted off of the regular price, so you never pay full price for anything in their store. They have many different categories of books, including top sellers, new releases, children's titles, and featured clearance. You can also find popular family movies for sale at Seagull Book. At some of their locations you can even find clothing items, like neckties.

Ken Sanders Rare Books

If you are looking for a rare or unique books, this is the place to go. They specialize in books about Utah history and the history of the West. They also have an art gallery, author readings, and author signings. Ken Sanders has appeared on The Antiques Roadshow to appraise books. If you own a rare book, you can have it appraised by Ken Sanders. Besides books, they also have maps, postcards and textbooks. Ken Sanders Rare Books also purchases books from the general public. They offer gift certificates, which are great gifts for the person that has everything. Ken Sanders also owns Dream Garden Press, which is a small regional publisher that  specializes in books about Utah, the Intermountain West and the Southwest.

Barnes & Noble in The Gateway

Barnes & Noble Gateway is located at the North-end of The Gateway Mall in downtown Salt Lake City, next to the historic Union Pacific Railroad building. You can read books inside their store, or outside on the patio overlooking the Olympic Legacy Fountains. They have complimentary WiFi, making this location a favorite for locals. Like all Barnes & Nobles, this location is arranged in different sections, so finding what you are looking for is easy. Many of their locations also have a coffee shop inside where you can buy coffee, bagels, smoothies, and other treats. College students -- don't miss their textbooks section!
