Russell Equestrian Center

Saddle up, cowgirl! Russell Equestrian Center is a full-service barn that offers horseback riding lessons, horses for sale, boarding services and more. Located in the gorgeous Texas Hill Country, the 57-acre facility features beautiful wooded trails, three sand arenas, cross country jumps and five large turnout areas. This is the perfect place to board and train your horse. But even if you don't have your own, you should come out and enjoy their public riding lessons, available for both beginners and experienced riders. Lessons are available every week Tuesday through Sunday on their horse or yours.


La Cantera Golf Club

Guys aren't the only ones who can get together for a round of golf. Gather your girlfriends and hit the links. Discover the world renowned Palmer Course and Resort Course at La Cantera Golf Club. You can get discounted rates by booking as a twosome, on weekdays or after 1 p.m. If you are having a get-together with a bunch of friends or hosting an event, you can bring as few as 16 or as many as 500 golfers to La Cantera for your special day. Rated as one of the best golf resorts for women, La Cantera is the perfect place to spend the day golfing, whether you are new to the sport or have been playing for years.

Fitness Stations in the Parks

To encourage San Antonians to get fit and enjoy the outdoors, the parks and rec department installed high quality fitness equipment stations at various area parks throughout the city. These Fitness Stations in the parks feature top-notch equipment for resistance training, cardio, balance, stretching and more. In many of the parks, the pieces are grouped together to create an outdoor gym atmosphere. Grab your girlfriends or go it alone and head to one of the local parks. Conner Park (address above) has equipment from Health Beat Outdoor Fitness Systems clustered near their new covered basketball court. However, Conner isn't the only location for the outdoor Fitness Stations. See the San Antonio Parks & Recreation website for over 20 locations. They also offer free outdoor exercise sessions and activities, from Zumba to yoga, for all fitness levels.

Camp Gladiator

If you are looking to get fit, sign up for Camp Gladiator. You just bring an outdoor fitness mat, running shoes, dumbbells, a towel and water, and you'll be all set to experience a fun yet strenuous fitness camp. Campers get a full body workout from interval training, sprint and agility drills, body strength drills, cardio mix, plyometrics and more. Whether you want to lose a few pounds or are training for a marathon, Camp Gladiator boot camp can be beneficial to you. Once you sign up, you can take part in an unlimited number of sessions over the next four weeks at any or all of their locations for one price. In San Antonio, they have 12 locations at various parks, schools, markets and other spots.

Stone Oak Stroller Strides

New moms can get back in shape, enjoy the outdoors and take part in a very supportive group on the north side. San Antonio moms get together and get fit outdoors with the Stone Oak Stroller Strides fitness program. Run by instructors that are certified in pre- and post-natal fitness, Stroller Strides is fun, supportive and a great way to get into shape. The program promotes family fitness as the moms are a great role model for kids to experience fitness right from the start of their lives. This total fitness program takes place at Stone Oak Park and other locations in the surrounding area several days a week.
