The Alamo

The Alamo receives more than 2.5 million visitors each year. People flock from far and wide to check out this old mission, which played a pivotal role in the Texas Revolution. Kids love learning about the history of Texas and battle heroes such as James Bowie and Davey Crockett. The Alamo consists of three buildings -- the shrine, the Long Barrack Museum and Gift Museum. Here you will find displays and exhibits about the 13-day battle where a small band of Texans held out against the army of General Santa Anna.  Additionally, visitors can stroll around the beautiful gardens surrounding the Alamo.

Also in Market Square, you'll find dozens of specialty shops and restaurants in the Farmers Market Plaza and on Produce Row. Dubbed the largest Mexican Marketplace outside of San Antonio, your family will enjoy a full day of shopping here. This popular San Antonio destination is also home to live outdoor music and special events in the evenings and on weekends.

San Antonio River Walk

The River Walk is the pride of San Antonio with its beautiful stone walkways leading visitors to the numerous restaurants, shops, hotels, museums and attractions along or nearby the riverbanks. At the San Antonio River Walk, kids love walking along the river and seeing all the sights. You can also take a relaxing dinner cruise or just hop on a river taxi to go from place to place. The River Walk is home to numerous concerts and outdoor events at the Arneson River Theatre, as well as river parades and other seasonal activities. The San Antonio River Walk is also pet-friendly, so you can bring your family pooch -- as long as he's on a leash.
