Simply Selma's

This gift shop located the La Promenade shopping center is a Virginia Beach locals’ favorite.  With an assortment of unique finds, their book selection is small but features some fun and gift-worthy titles.  Be warned: this is one of those stores one could literally spend hours (and too much money) shopping in!  That being said, there are also some very reasonable finds.  Be sure to take advantage of the complimentary gift wrap service as their packages turn out extraordinary and distinct.

AFK Books

Reminiscent of the inside of a library, this book store offers tens of thousands of products, most at 50% off the original retail price or better. While books are the namesake, the store also carries cds, dvds, audiobooks, e-readers, and even vinyl LPs! What makes AFK Books unique, though, is the buy-back service offered to customers. At AFK, customers can sell their gently used products to the store for cash, an appealing offer that keeps customers coming in and inventory constantly changing.

Barritts Books

With three Virginia Beach locations, Barritts Books is a family-owned bookstore which caters to book enthusiasts and bargain seekers alike. They specialize in selling and trading used paperbacks at low prices.  They also house a children’s section with a variety of used and new books at 50% off publisher’s prices. Additionally, each location has a wall devoted specifically to science fiction. Barritts prides itself on its customer service, so don’t be afraid to ask for help if the selection seems immense.

Busy Bees Children's Boutique

If you’re on the search for a unique children’s book (or any other children’s item for that matter), Busy Bees Boutique should be your first destination. Located in the Hilltop section of the city, Busy Bees has been voted Best of the Beach for the last four-years. Adults and children alike will find the space inviting, fun, and comfortable. Complimentary gift wrap is available with any purchase.

Heritage Bookstore

In 1943, Edgar Cayce, the world’s most documented psychic, gained national prominence when a high-profile article entitled “Miracle Man of Virginia Beach” was published. Located just down the road from Cayce’s Holistic Center, the Heritage Store prides itself on carrying on the principles of Cayce’s readings. The bookstore offers a wide selection of metaphysical and current event books on subjects such as astrology, divination, meditation, parenting, diet/nutrition, and much more (check out their website for a complete listing).
