Anne Kolb Nature Center

Located at West Lake Park, the Anne Kolb Nature Center is a must-do for families who love to explore the outdoors because the possibilities are endless. Rent canoes or kayaks to paddle through the mangroves or for the younger crowd, try seeing the sights from a guided pontoon boat. The Nature Center can also be explored on foot (bring strollers or carriers for the little ones!) and if you're up to the challenge, climb the staircase to the top of the 68-foot tower that overlooks the entire 1500-acres. Don't worry, there's also an elevator that can take you to the top!

Boomers! Amusement Park

Boomers! is every kids' dream -- a land filled with go-karts, mini-golf, arcade games and bumper boats. Oh wait, there's more. Roller coasters, a rock wall, batting cages, bowling and laser tag. Although it can be done with younger kids, Boomers! is geared towards the ten and up crowd with height requirements on some of the attractions. Don't forget to pack some water bottles and snacks to avoid having to buy them at the park!

Flamingo Gardens

Flamingo Gardens is one of the area's favorite destinations. The entire family will love the natural look into Florida's wildlife, not just flamingos, but alligators, otters, peacocks and more. Everyone agrees that the narrated tram ride to the back of the gardens is a must to check out all of the creatures. Admission is a bit high at $17 (ages 12 and up, $8.50 for ages 4-11, 3 and under are free), but it is a non-profit organization, so the money goes right back to helping these beautiful animals.

Young at Art Children's Museum

The Young at Art Children's Museum is a great, affordable family find in the Ft. Lauderdale area.  There are a handful of permanent exhibits that kids love coming back to explore, including the Global Village where they can explore art and music from around the world and Kenny's Closet, which features colorful DayGlo black light art.  For parents of toddlers, sign up for classes with Ms. Penny, who both kids and parents adore!   Studio art classes are also available for your budding school-aged Picasso.

Jungle Queen Riverboat

How fun to take a cruise on a true Southern river boat! The Jungle Queen is a great way to experience the waterfront of Ft. Lauderdale. Parents love hearing about the homes and properties along the tour, kids love the animals at the tropical island destination and everyone loves the all you can eat BBQ dinner. The tour is three-hours long and even the youngest ones stay entertained the entire time.
