It’s hip, it’s upscale, it’s practically brand-new and best of all, it’s dog friendly. The boutique Hotel Indigo has come to St. Louis, adding its urban appeal to the colorful Central West End scene. Everything is spa-inspired, from the rooms to the lobby to the state-of-the-art workout room. Service is their specialty: don’t be surprised to see a doggie dish at the hotel’s entrance. They are all about canines, and not at all afraid to show it. Whether you’re headed for a lounging night out or an overnight stay, Hotel Indigo is the perfect place to socialize with your canine counterpart.
Located in the heart of historic Soulard, the Soulard Dog Park is a cozy and lush respite for canines and their owners. Created in 2004 by the Frenchtown Dog Park Association, the park offers a dog-friendly haven to those residing in the historic neighborhoods (as well as those passing through!) Well-maintained and secure, it’s one of the largest dog parks in the city. So take your furry friend on a walking tour of Soulard, then head to the Dog Park for some leash-free running and socializing with other dogs. The area offers many dog-friendly cafes, restaurants and boutiques, so you’ll be sure to want to make a day of it.
If you love history and love walking your dog, then this just may be the perfect destination for you. Leashed pets are absolutely welcome in the 9.65-acre park dedicated to the President and military hero (but must wait outside for you if you choose to venture inside the buildings.) This historic property, also known as White Haven, is situated around five buildings: a main house, barn, chicken house, stone building and ice house. These buildings are remnants of the thriving 1100-acre plantation occupied by Grant and his family during the 1850s. Open every day except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day.
Do a little shopping and absorb a little culture with your pooch alongside you on the St. Louis Walk of Fame on the Delmar Loop in University City. A well-kept secret even among St. Louis natives, the Walk of Fame is strewn with such famous names as Miles Davis, T.S. Eliot, Ulysses S. Grant, Nelly, Maya Angelou, Chuck Berry, Tina Turner, Ozzie Smith and more. Each bronze store is engraved with the honoree’s name and accompanied by a plaque containing a brief biographical summary. Bring your dog along for the stroll, but make a pit stop beforehand, because grassy areas are not immediately accessible.
