Nightlife in Cleveland, OH
This laid back tavern is perfect for the girls to gather after a hard day at work, or for a casual date. The kitschy feel of the décor makes you feel instantly at home and relaxed. The menu is tavern-style, and the drinks are expertly made and never watered down. When they get busy, the wait for your food can be long, but they have a vintage game room to help you pass the time. The bowling machine and antique games are a kickback to a different era, but they all are in working order and are a blast to play. For a tasty treat, order the Ruben sandwich. Instead of traditional rye bread, it’s made on potato pancakes. Can you say “Yum!”?
Are you looking for a good laugh? Try the Cleveland Improv. Tucked into the Sugar Warehouse Entertainment Complex, this comedy club opens nearly every night to bring laughs to their small audience. Through the week you’ll find smaller names and local faces who will probably end up being big names in a year or two. Larger audiences flock to the weekend shows, usually because of a big name comedian taking to the stage. Either way, you’ll laugh ‘till you cry. The small, intimate setting means there isn’t a bad seat in the house, but it also means you may be closer to your neighbor than you’re comfortable with. The food and drink prices are high, so it’s smart to stop someplace else for dinner before or after the show. It’s a great way to start a girl’s night, or a fun way to break the ice on a first date.
If the weather’s nice and you feel like being social, head to Shooters on the Water. The décor in this place hasn’t been updated since the 90s and leaves much to be desired, but the interior isn’t really what this place is all about. They have a huge deck overlooking the lake. On the deck, there’s not only an outside bar and DJ booth, but also a massive stage and room for a big crowd. During the warmer months of the year, this is the place to be. Have a meal. Order a drink, visit with friends and dance your butt off, all while soaking up some sun or watching the moon glisten off the lake.
The Cadillac Ranch is nothing if not gaudy, but that’s all part or the appeal. They’re open all day long, but the place transforms at night. Part restaurant, part bar and part dance club, you can spend your whole evening in just one place. If you’re feeling daring, take a ride on the mechanical bull. The black toilets and sinks in the bathroom are slightly off-putting, but the bathroom attendant is an unexpected nice touch. They have a spacious patio for when the weather cooperates, though it tends to fill up quick.
This restaurant and bar is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Cleveland, a short walking distance from lots of popular activities. The décor is classy enough to make you feel like you’re in a nice establishment, but not so nice that you feel out of place if you aren’t all dolled up. They have live bands several nights of the week, though the music isn’t so loud you can’t talk to whomever you’re sitting across from. The food is great, the drinks are top-notch, and the staff is all very friendly. The prices are high for just about everything on the menu, but you’re downtown, so it’s par for the course.
