Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

Get out your walking shoes, because there’s a ton to see at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Visit animals from around the world, including endangered species. Take a break from the hot sun and walk in the indoor rainforest to experience another part of the world. Pack a cooler with drinks and snacks – it can get pricey to feed the family at the zoo. When you need to rest your feet, sit back on a bench while the kids enjoy the huge playground. If the weather is just too much, take a ride of the enclosed tram, free of charge.

Cleveland Botanical Garden

Get some fresh air and take a stroll through the Cleveland Botanical Gardens.  There’s nowhere else in Cleveland that gives you such a beautiful glimpse into the wonder of nature. The area includes 10 themed outdoor gardens, as well as some indoor space. Bring your camera and practice your photography skills, or pack a lunch and sit and eat while you enjoy the view. If you bring along any little ones, be sure to stop by the Hershey Children’s Garden while you’re there – this kid-sized garden is just right for tots. Play in fountains, dig for worms and walk through an herb garden to let your children see what gardening is all about. It’s located in the heart of the University District, so you’ll find plenty  to do while you’re in the neighborhood.

Shooters on the Water

If the weather’s nice and you feel like being social this summer, head to Shooters on the Water. The décor in this place hasn’t been updated since the 90s and leaves much to be desired, but the interior isn’t really what this place is all about. They have a huge deck overlooking the lake. On the deck, there’s not only an outside bar and DJ booth, but also a massive stage and room for a big crowd. During the warmer months of the year, this is the place to be. Have a meal. Order a drink, visit with friends and dance your butt off, all while soaking up some sun or watching the moon glisten off the lake. It’s an awesome way to spend a summer evening with friends.

Cain Park

This place is like something you’d hear about in a fairytale. Cain Park is definitely of one of Cleveland’s most well-hidden jewels. This beautiful outdoor amphitheater is surrounded by a brick wall, and beyond that a thick forest of trees. You would never find it if you weren’t looking for it. During the summer months, this venue puts on several theatrical shows and also hosts many concerts. The concerts are usually put on by laid-back artists with a softer sound, which only emphasizes the romantic scenery that makes up the park. You can get a seat if you like, but for the whole experience just pack a blanket and find a spot on the lawn.

Progressive Field

Even if you aren’t into baseball, you should spend some time at Progressive Field, home of the Cleveland Indians. The sight, sounds and spirit of this place are something everyone should experience while they’re in Cleveland, and who knows – it may even make you a fan. Over 80 home games from April through September make it easy to find a game that fits your schedule. For easier parking and to avoid traffic, park in a garage or surface lot at least a few blocks away and walk to the field. Step 2 KidsLand is located on the mezzanine level for younger children who aren’t into baseball.
